Unit 7: (Television)Talk about TV Programs
Objective:
- Students will learn how to talk about their favorite TV programs in English.
- Students will practice using vocabulary and structures related to TV programs.
- Students will practice asking and answering questions about TV programs.
1. Vocabulary
Start by introducing some key vocabulary related to TV programs. Write them on the board and practice pronunciation with the students. These words will help students talk about their favorite shows.
- TV programs: Cartoons, News, Reality shows, Documentaries, Sports, Game shows
- Time-related words: Morning, Afternoon, Evening, Night, Weekdays, Weekends
- Genres: Funny, Exciting, Educational, Boring, Interesting, Relaxing
2. Structures & Grammar
Explain the structure for talking about TV programs. Emphasize the use of "What", "When", "Why", and "How often" to ask and answer questions.

What is your favourite TV program?
Answer: My favourite TV program is "Tom and Jerry." -
When does your favourite TV program start?
Answer: It starts at 8 PM. -
Why do you like watching "Tom and Jerry"?
Answer: Because it is funny. -
How often do you watch it?
Answer: I watch it every day.
3. Listening & Speaking Practice
Pair up the students and ask them to practice asking and answering questions about TV programs. Here are some example questions:
- What is your favourite TV program?
- When do you watch it?
- Why do you like it?
- Where do you usually watch it?
Encourage students to ask follow-up questions, such as:
- How often do you watch it?
- Who is your favourite character?
4. Reading Practice
Give students a short passage about someone’s favourite TV program. Ask them to answer the following questions based on the passage:
Example passage:
"My name is Linh. My favourite TV program is ‘Viet Nam Idol.’ It starts at 8 PM every Saturday. I like watching it because it is very exciting. I watch it with my family. We all love the performances!"
Questions:
- What is Linh's favourite TV program?
- When does it start?
- Why does Linh like watching it?
- Who does Linh watch it with?
5. Writing Practice
Ask students to write about their own favourite TV program. They should answer these questions in full sentences:
- What is your favourite TV program?
- When does it start?
- Why do you like it?
- How often do you watch it?
6. Review & Reinforcement
To review the lesson, ask the students to share their writing with a partner or in front of the class. Provide feedback on their pronunciation and grammar. If necessary, review any mistakes related to word order, verb tenses, and sentence structure.
Homework Assignment
For homework, ask students to watch one episode of their favourite TV program and write a short paragraph about it, answering the questions:
- What is the program?
- When did you watch it?
- Why do you like it?
