During his career, he created his world-renowned character, "the Tramp," which he portrayed in more than 70 films. He also composed the background music for many of his own movies. In 1972, Chaplin was honored with an Academy Award for his profound impact on "making motion pictures the art form of this century." He passed away at his home in Switzerland in 1977.
